- Private - Co. "F" Enlisted July 12, 1863 - Mustered in September 14, 1863 - Mustered out with regiment August 20, 1865. Regimental Officer was Col. John E. Phelps The military records from the National Archives Washington DC, show that Elias Auvenshine served with Co F 2 Regiment
Arkansas Cavalry. He was 36 years old, Height; 5 feet 8 inches, Complexion; Fair, Eyes; Blue, Hair; light. Where born; Warren County, Tennessee, Occupation; Farmer. Enlistment July 12, 1863 in Springfield, Missouri, by James L. Powell for a term of 3 years. On the Muster Roll for January and February 1864, in the remarks it states, "Absent without leave since 24 Feb 64 in Polk Co., Mo." On the Muster roll for March and April he is listed as present and in the remarks is stated "Bounty unpaid," which shows he returned voluntarily. On the Muster Roll for September and October 1864 in the Remarks, "Detached service to North Mo. since 27 Sept 1864." One of the records is called "Returns". This record states, "Appears on Returns as Follows: Feb 1864, Absent with leave Polk Co. Feb 12, 64, March, Apr, May '64 Co Clrk." {He had gone home for the birth of his 8th child Sarah L. who was born 13 March 1864.} "Sept `64 Absent sick Springfield, Mo Sept 26, 64; Nov 64 Sick in Hosp. Springfield, Mo Oct 18, 64." At the bottom is a statement, "Appears also as Elisha Overshire." {This means that there are more records, those for Elisha Overshire, and the Hospital records.} The Muster-Out Roll shows that he was mustered out on August 20, 1865 in Memphis, Tennessee. The last recorded payment was on Feb 28, 1865, and that he was due $39.71.
